Project Details
The capital city of Mali includes dozens of quartiers/sub-sections on both banks of the Niger River. A
few kilometers from the center of town, there is a section of town named Banconi Plateau. Just like our
towns and cities in North America, in Bamako there are the richer and the not rich neighborhoods.
Banconi Plateau is home to thousands of families living in poverty. For many children in neighborhoods
like Bancon Plateau, soccer is a daily ritual. To celebrate the beginning of the new school year, African
Sky purchased a set of durable soccer nets and several soccer balls. The teen soccer players in the
neighborhood built strong wooden goal posts from which to hang the new nets. In late afternoon and
often during weekends, kids and young adults in the community use the nets. The professional quality nets
are the first nets the local players have had for their soccer field.
